ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to better identify patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) who are at risk for a serious lung injury called barotrauma, especially in those affected by COVID-19. Barotrauma can occur when pressure changes in the lungs, and it can lead to high mortality rates. The researchers have found that a specific imaging technique, known as the Macklin effect, may help predict this risk. They want to see if this method works for patients with both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 related ARDS. Additionally, they are using advanced technology, like artificial intelligence, to find new ways to assess lung health through imaging without needing invasive procedures.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be between the ages of 65 and 74, show signs of ARDS, and require care in an intensive care unit. They will need to give consent to be part of the study. Participants can expect to undergo imaging tests that will help researchers learn more about their lung condition and assess their risk for barotrauma. This research aims to develop better strategies for protecting vulnerable patients and improving their treatment outcomes.
