ClinConnect Summary
The AFTERMATH trial is designed to help improve healthcare for adults with mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, especially those who also have other chronic conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many challenges in primary care, leading to unequal access to healthcare services. This study will test a new approach to prioritize these patients in primary care settings, aiming to enhance their quality of life and ensure they receive the care they need.
To participate in this trial, family physicians must be part of a specific research network and have at least ten patients living with depression, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder, along with another chronic disease. Patients eligible for the study must be adults over 18 years old, receiving care from these physicians. While the trial is not yet recruiting participants, it promises to provide important insights that could improve access to healthcare and reduce inequalities in care for these vulnerable populations.
