ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating the effects of a special treatment using methylene blue and a local anesthetic called bupivacaine to help manage pain after lower limb amputation surgery. The researchers want to see if this combination can not only reduce pain immediately after surgery but also help prevent a type of long-lasting pain known as phantom pain, which some patients experience after losing a limb.
To participate in this trial, patients need to be between the ages of 65 and 74, and they must be scheduled for an above or below knee amputation due to poor blood flow in their legs. However, individuals who have allergies to local anesthetics or methylene blue, or those on certain blood-thinning medications, won’t be able to join. If eligible, participants can expect to receive the treatment during their surgery and will be monitored closely to assess its effectiveness in pain relief. This study is currently recruiting, and it's an important step toward improving pain management for future patients undergoing similar surgeries.
