ClinConnect Summary
The Project NRG trial is looking to find the best ways to measure how much energy people use while at rest, which is known as resting energy expenditure (REE). This research is important because different methods of measuring REE can produce different results, especially in the Colombian population. The study will involve 130 adults from Medellín and Bogotá, including those who are sedentary, physically active, and competitive athletes. By comparing different measurement methods, the goal is to create a simple and accurate way to estimate energy needs that can help health professionals in Colombia.
To participate in this study, you need to be over 18 years old and live in Medellín or Bogotá. The study is open to all genders, but people over 60 years old or those with certain health conditions, like heart or lung diseases, cannot join. Participants will undergo a test called indirect calorimetry, which measures how much energy the body uses while resting. This research is not yet recruiting, but it promises to improve how energy needs are assessed for different activity levels in Colombia.
