ClinConnect Summary

The Teen Mom Study Feasibility Trial is looking to improve the health of pregnant Black teenagers in rural Mississippi, where there are high rates of teen births and health risks. The study will test a digital health program that uses mobile technology to provide support and coaching to young mothers enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. The goal is to help these moms make healthier lifestyle choices, such as being more active and managing their weight during pregnancy, which can help reduce health problems for both them and their babies.

To participate in this study, young women aged 15 to 19 who are Black or African American, less than 20 weeks pregnant, and live in certain counties in the Mississippi Delta may be eligible. Participants should be able to speak English, own a smartphone, and plan to keep their baby after birth. They should not have any serious health conditions that could affect their weight. If eligible, participants can expect to receive guidance and support from trained peers through telehealth, which means they'll communicate via phone or video calls. This innovative approach aims to empower young mothers and improve health outcomes in their community.
