ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how different types of sweeteners in drinks affect oral health, specifically focusing on pH levels (which indicate acidity) and the types of bacteria in dental plaque, in Mexican teenagers. Participants will drink three different types of beverages on separate occasions: one without any sweeteners, one with a non-caloric sweetener called stevioside, and one with a sugary sweetener called sucrose. The researchers will then compare how each drink changes the acidity in saliva and dental plaque, as well as the growth of bacteria in the mouth.
To be eligible for this study, participants should be teenagers who usually drink soft drinks and have a certain level of dental issues (indicated by the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth index). They must also get permission from their parents to join. However, those currently undergoing orthodontic treatment, using fluoride treatments, or who have certain health conditions affecting their ability to brush their teeth won't be able to participate. If you join the study, you can expect to drink the different beverages and help researchers learn more about how what we consume affects our oral health.
