ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how opioid medications, which are often used for pain relief after surgery, might affect the strength of the diaphragm muscle. The diaphragm is a key muscle that helps us breathe, so understanding its function after taking opioids is important, especially for patients who may already have breathing issues.
The study is open to adults between the ages of 65 and 74 who are having orthopedic surgery on their legs at specific hospitals within the Mayo Clinic system. To participate, you cannot be pregnant, have a serious lung condition, or refuse to take part in the research. If you join the study, you will help researchers learn more about how opioid use might impact breathing and muscle strength, which can lead to better care for patients in the future.
