ClinConnect Summary
The HIPPOCRATES Prospective Observational Study is a research project aimed at understanding how psoriasis, a skin condition, can lead to psoriatic arthritis, a type of arthritis that causes joint pain and inflammation. This study will take place across Europe and is being conducted by a team at the University of Oxford and University College Dublin. Researchers want to identify people with psoriasis who are at risk of developing arthritis so that they can find ways to prevent it before it starts. They will be recruiting adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with psoriasis, but not with psoriatic arthritis.
Participants in the study will be asked to fill out questionnaires every six months through a dedicated website. These questionnaires will help researchers determine if someone may be developing arthritis. If a participant shows signs of possible arthritis, they will be encouraged to seek medical help. Additionally, some participants will provide a small blood sample using an easy home kit, which will be sent to a lab for further testing. This study not only aims to understand the links between psoriasis and arthritis but also looks at how psoriasis affects people’s daily lives. If you have psoriasis and are interested in participating, this could be a valuable opportunity to contribute to important research that may help others in the future.
