ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how to manage pain for patients with oropharyngeal cancer who are undergoing a specific type of surgery called transoral robotic surgery (TORS). The researchers want to see if using a local anesthetic called EXPAREL® (Liposomal Bupivacaine) can help reduce pain and improve the ability to swallow after surgery. EXPAREL® is a pain relief medication that is injected directly into the surgical area and is known for providing long-lasting relief. The trial will compare the experience of patients who receive this injection after surgery with those who do not to find out which method works better for pain control and swallowing.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be at least 18 years old and be scheduled for transoral robotic surgery. Both men and women are eligible, but those with allergies to Bupivacaine or similar anesthetics, or those with a specific health condition called carnitine deficiency, cannot take part. If you choose to join, you can expect to receive care that is standard for pain management, along with the possibility of receiving the experimental injection to see if it helps improve your recovery. The study is currently recruiting participants, so there is an opportunity to be part of this important research.
