ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at a new way to diagnose acute appendicitis, which is an inflammation of the appendix that can be serious if not treated quickly. The researchers want to see if using a lower amount of radiation during a CT scan, along with a smaller dose of contrast media (a special dye used to improve the images), can still provide accurate results. This approach aims to reduce the radiation exposure for young patients while still being effective in identifying appendicitis.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be young patients in the emergency department who have symptoms suggesting acute appendicitis and are scheduled for a CT scan of their abdomen and pelvis. However, individuals who are pregnant, have certain kidney issues, or have a high body mass index (BMI) won't be able to participate. If you or someone you know is eligible, the trial will involve undergoing a CT scan with lower doses of both radiation and contrast media, and you will help researchers understand if this method is both safe and effective.
