ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the palliative care needs of elderly patients, specifically those aged 75 and older, who visit the emergency department. Palliative care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of serious illnesses, aiming to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. The researchers want to find out how many elderly patients have these needs when they come to the emergency department and whether those needs are recorded in their medical files.
To participate in the study, individuals must be over 75 years old and classified as triage levels 2 to 4 during their emergency visit, which indicates they need urgent care. Unfortunately, those with dementia or other cognitive challenges, as well as individuals who cannot communicate in Swedish, will not be included. Participants can expect a researcher to assess their palliative care needs using a special guide, and their medical records will also be reviewed after their visit. The findings from this trial could help improve care for elderly patients, ensuring they receive the appropriate support and potentially reducing unnecessary emergency visits and hospital stays.
