ClinConnect Summary
This study is testing whether different training methods can help family or formal caregivers reduce mistakes when looking after people with multiple chronic illnesses who take many medications. Caregivers are randomly assigned to one of four groups: a usual-care control group, a 2-hour session using 360-degree videos, a short (20-minute) virtual reality (VR) training, or a 20-minute augmented reality (AR) training. The main goal is to see if these trainings can lower home-care and medication errors over 6 months, and also to see how the training affects the caregiver’s experience of care.
Who can join? Adults aged 18–65 who are currently caring for someone with several health problems and high medication use. Exclusions include caregivers who are already familiar with disruptive technologies or who have vertigo. The trial is set in Spain (Fundación Fisabio, San Juan de Alicante) and plans to enroll about 227 participants. After training, caregivers’ performance will be recorded and reviewed to count errors, and participants will complete a brief questionnaire about their experience with long-term care. The study is not about a drug or device approval; it focuses on training methods to support safer home care. Recruitment is ongoing, with completion targeted around the end of 2025.
