ClinConnect Summary

The HERITAGE study is a clinical trial taking place in Zhejiang, China, aimed at helping older adults who are at risk of experiencing cognitive decline, which can lead to conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The researchers want to see if a combination of lifestyle changes—such as increasing physical activity, improving nutrition, providing mental exercises, encouraging social interactions, and managing heart health—can help slow down cognitive decline in these individuals. This study will involve around 1,200 elderly residents over a period of two years.

To participate, individuals should be generally healthy but showing some signs of cognitive decline, meaning they have some difficulty with thinking and memory compared to others their age. They should not have any diagnosed dementia or other serious health conditions that could interfere with the study. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a group that receives the lifestyle intervention or a comparison group, and they will be expected to commit to all study activities for the full two years. This research could provide valuable insights into how lifestyle changes can support brain health in older adults.
