ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "At-home Walking Cadence Functional Assessment and Recovery Trajectory for Older Adults Undergoing Major Surgery," is looking at how walking patterns can help us understand the health of older adults before they have major abdominal surgery. Researchers at the University of Chicago want to see if tracking how quickly and steadily people walk at home, using a mobile device, can give us important information about their overall physical condition and potentially identify those who might face challenges after surgery.
To participate in this study, you must be at least 65 years old and scheduled for major abdominal surgery. You’ll need access to a safe space for walking, like a long hallway or a public area, and be able to walk on your own, even if you use a cane or walker. During the study, you'll be asked to walk in your own home, and your walking patterns will be monitored. If you're interested, this trial offers a chance to contribute to important research that could help improve care for older adults undergoing surgery.
