ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring whether virtual reality (VR) can help reduce pain and stress in children and young adults after they have surgery to correct scoliosis, which is a curvature of the spine. The researchers believe that using VR right after surgery may help patients feel less pain and anxiety, leading to a lower need for opioid medications during their hospital stay. Previous studies in other areas of pediatric care have shown promising results with VR, so they are excited to see if it can help in this situation too.
To participate in this study, patients must be between the ages of 7 and 21 and have recently undergone surgery for scoliosis. Unfortunately, some individuals may not be eligible, including those under 7 years old, or those with a history of seizures, motion sickness, or migraines. If you or someone you know qualifies, participants can expect to use VR technology shortly after their surgery, which will hopefully help make their recovery a more comfortable experience. The trial is currently recruiting, and they welcome all genders to take part in this important research.
