ClinConnect Summary
The clinical trial titled "Students With Involved Families and Teachers" is exploring a program called SWIFT, designed to help middle school students improve their emotional skills and behavior, while also enhancing communication between parents and schools. This study focuses on students in grades 6-8 who receive special education services for emotional or behavioral challenges and are either transitioning to a new school setting or at risk of doing so. The aim is to see if the SWIFT program can help these students build better social skills, manage their emotions, and improve their overall adjustment in school, while also encouraging parents to get more involved in their children's education.
To participate, students must be in grades 5-8, speak English or Spanish, and be eligible or at risk for special education services related to emotional or behavioral issues. The study will take place in ten school districts in Lane County, Oregon, and will involve about 320 students. Participants in the SWIFT program will engage in a variety of activities over 9-12 months, including progress monitoring and parent support, while a comparison group will continue receiving their usual school services. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and it aims to not only support the students but also strengthen family involvement in their education.
