ClinConnect Summary
The IONA Longitudinal Cohort Study is a research project aimed at understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, especially as more people in Scotland are affected by these conditions. The study will collect information over several years about how people think and remember, their lifestyle choices, and health factors that might increase the risk of developing dementia, such as hearing loss and obesity. Researchers hope to learn more about how dementia progresses in different individuals by studying a diverse group that represents the Scottish population.
To be part of this study, participants need to be at least 50 years old, live in Scotland, and have a study partner who is at least 18 years old. It's important that participants can read, write, and speak English well enough to complete assessments about their thinking abilities. Those who join the study will help researchers gather valuable information, and they may also have the option to be informed about future studies they can participate in. Overall, this study aims to enhance our understanding of dementia and improve care for those affected by it.
