ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring whether acupuncture can help reduce the symptoms of infant colic, a common condition where babies cry excessively, often for more than three hours a day. The study will involve 128 infants, aged 2 to 9 weeks, who are otherwise healthy and meet specific crying criteria. Half of the infants will receive acupuncture treatment, while the other half will not receive any acupuncture, and parents will not know which group their baby is in to ensure fairness in the results.
To participate, infants must be born at least 37 weeks into the pregnancy and must be experiencing significant crying as recorded in a diary. Babies who have lost weight or have had previous acupuncture treatments are not eligible. Throughout the trial, researchers will closely monitor the babies' crying patterns, bowel movements, and feeding habits to see if acupuncture makes a difference. This study is important because there are currently no effective treatments for infant colic, and it aims to provide more information about the potential benefits of acupuncture for this condition.
