ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking into how problems with the umbilical cord during pregnancy might predict certain complications for the baby. Researchers will measure various aspects of the umbilical cord, such as its thickness and how well blood flows through it, at two points during pregnancy: between 20-22 weeks and again at 35-37 weeks. They want to see if these measurements can help identify pregnancies that might lead to issues like low birth weight, brain injury, stillbirth, or the need for special care in the neonatal unit.
To participate in this study, women must be pregnant with one baby and booked for care at the hospital before reaching 20 weeks of pregnancy. Unfortunately, those with multiple pregnancies, under the age of 16, unable to give consent, or those with known fetal abnormalities cannot join. If eligible, participants can expect to undergo routine ultrasound scans to gather important information about the umbilical cord, which will help improve understanding and care for pregnancies at risk of complications.
