ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding how ultrasound can be used to examine the diaphragm, which is a key muscle for breathing, before and after major surgeries. The goal is to see if measuring how well the diaphragm functions can help predict whether patients will experience breathing complications, like pneumonia or low oxygen levels, after their surgery.
To participate, adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for major elective surgeries involving the abdomen, pelvis, or blood vessels may be eligible. Participants will undergo diaphragm ultrasound tests before and after their surgery, and the researchers will also collect information about their overall health and any surgery-related details. They will track any respiratory issues that arise up to 30 days after surgery to see if there’s a link between diaphragm function and these complications. This research could help improve care for patients undergoing significant surgical procedures.
