ClinConnect Summary
The Early Childhood Friendship Project (ECFP) is a study designed to help preschool children improve their social skills and reduce aggressive behaviors, like bullying. Researchers will work with 600 children from diverse backgrounds in preschool classrooms to see how the ECFP program impacts behaviors such as aggression and friendliness, as well as academic readiness for kindergarten. The study will also look at how children's ability to manage their emotions and their thinking skills might influence the results. To understand the effects of the program, researchers will gather information through various methods, including observations, interviews, and teacher reports, both during the program and at follow-up points four months and a year later.
To be eligible for this study, children must be attending one of the participating child care centers in the Buffalo area and planning to start kindergarten in the fall. There are no specific exclusions, so as long as children meet the age requirements and attend the right centers, they can participate. Families can expect that their child may receive additional support to help develop positive social behaviors and prepare for a successful transition to kindergarten. This study aims to create a positive impact on children's development and school readiness.
