ClinConnect Summary
The STEREO-DBS ET Study is looking at how a special type of MRI called 7-Tesla MRI can help improve treatment for patients with essential tremor who are undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. Essential tremor is a condition that causes shaking, and DBS can help manage this when medications aren’t enough. The study aims to see if using 7-Tesla MRI to better understand how different parts of the brain connect can lead to more effective placement of the DBS electrodes and better outcomes for patients. Researchers will measure changes in tremor severity and other aspects of daily life after six months of treatment.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be adults over 18 years old who have been diagnosed with essential tremor and are considering or have undergone DBS surgery. The study is observational, meaning there are no additional treatments being given beyond standard care, and participation poses very little risk. Those involved can expect to undergo regular assessments to track their progress and satisfaction with the treatment. The study is currently recruiting participants, so if you or someone you know fits the criteria, it could be an opportunity to contribute to important research in this field.
