ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how common Alzheimer's disease and related dementias are among the people living in American Samoa. The researchers want to understand the prevalence, which means how many people are affected by these conditions. To do this, participants aged 50 and older will take some tests to check their thinking and memory skills. They will also provide blood samples to help researchers look for specific genetic markers and substances in the blood that might be linked to these diseases.
If you or someone you know is interested in participating, you need to be at least 50 years old, live in the community, and be comfortable speaking either English or Samoan. It’s important to note that individuals living in assisted living or nursing homes, or those with certain serious mental or medical conditions, cannot participate. If eligible, participants can expect to undergo cognitive assessments and provide blood samples during the study visits. This research aims to improve our understanding of Alzheimer's and related dementias in this unique population, which could help in developing better care and support in the future.
