ClinConnect Summary
The ED Adaptive Staffing Study is looking at ways to improve care in emergency departments (EDs) in Ontario, especially when they are very busy. Right now, when patients arrive by ambulance, it can take a long time for paramedics to hand over the patient to the hospital staff. This delay can happen because there aren’t enough staff members in the area where patients are transferred. The study will explore adding either a primary care paramedic or a registered nurse to help during peak times, specifically from August to January. Researchers want to see if having extra help in the transfer area can reduce wait times, improve patient safety, and support the well-being of the staff.
To participate in this study, patients must arrive at the hospital's emergency department by ambulance. Unfortunately, those who come in through other means will not be eligible. If you or a loved one is brought to the hospital by ambulance during the study period, there may be an opportunity to contribute to this important research. Participants can expect that the study will be observing how the changes in staffing affect their care and the overall efficiency of the emergency department. This study aims to find better ways to manage high patient volumes and enhance the experience for everyone involved.
