ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called the Critical Time Intervention-Peer Support (CTI-PS), is studying a new way to help people with serious mental health issues, like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, after they leave the hospital. The goal is to provide extra support during a critical time when many individuals are at risk of feeling overwhelmed and may stop their treatment. The trial will involve people aged 18 to 65 who have recently been discharged from psychiatric hospitals. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive the new peer support program or standard care for nine months.
If you or a loved one qualifies for this study, you can expect to receive support from trained peer workers—people who have experienced similar mental health challenges and can offer guidance and understanding. This trial is being conducted in the Lisbon area of Portugal and aims to see if this approach can be effective in helping individuals maintain their recovery after leaving the hospital. It's an important step towards improving mental health care in the community, and researchers hope it will provide valuable insights into how peer support can benefit those dealing with mental health issues.
