ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how well the muscles that help us breathe, especially the diaphragm, work in patients who have had neurosurgery. Researchers want to find out if problems with these muscles could lead to difficulties in breathing after surgery, which is known as postoperative pulmonary complications. They will use ultrasound to measure how well these muscles are functioning in patients who are having their first elective neurosurgery.
To be eligible for this study, participants should be between 65 and 74 years old, able to give informed consent, and have no serious health issues that would complicate surgery. Unfortunately, people with certain conditions, like previous neurosurgery, lung problems, or specific diseases affecting the nerves or muscles, cannot participate. If you join the study, you can expect to undergo some ultrasound tests to check your respiratory muscle function before your surgery. This important research could help improve care for patients undergoing neurosurgery in the future.
