ClinConnect Summary
The HEAVEN CRITERIA vs Modified LEMON Score trial is studying two different ways to predict if a patient might have a difficult time being intubated in the emergency department. Intubation is a procedure used to help patients breathe, especially in emergencies when they are very ill or injured. The researchers want to see if a new method called HEAVEN is better at identifying potential problems than the commonly used Modified LEMON Score. Unlike the LEMON Score, which was designed for planned surgeries, the HEAVEN method focuses on factors that are more relevant in emergency situations.
To participate in this trial, patients must be undergoing an endotracheal intubation in the emergency department and must either give consent themselves or have their family members provide consent. However, patients who are not able to consent or those in cardiac arrest will not be included in the study. If you or a loved one is eligible, you can expect to be part of an important effort to improve intubation safety and outcomes in emergency medicine.
