ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how reducing the use of a medicine called colistin in animals affects colistin resistance in both humans and poultry in Indonesia. Colistin is a powerful antibiotic used as a last resort for treating serious infections caused by bacteria that don't respond to other antibiotics. In Indonesia, there has been a concerning rise in colistin-resistant bacteria, particularly in poultry, which led to a ban on colistin use in livestock in 2020. The researchers want to find out how this ban impacts the levels of resistance in both people and animals, how colistin is being used in communities, and how resistance might spread between animals and humans.
To participate in this study, individuals must be at least 18 years old and willing to take part. Those who are currently experiencing vomiting or diarrhea will not be eligible. Participants can expect to provide samples for testing, and their involvement will help shape health policies aimed at controlling antibiotic resistance in Indonesia and beyond. This study is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to gather important information that could benefit public health across Southeast Asia.
