ClinConnect Summary
The Sodium Accumulation Study in Haemodialysis: Brain Study is researching a new type of MRI scan that can measure the levels of sodium (or salt) in different parts of the body. This study is especially important for people with kidney disease, as their kidneys play a crucial role in managing sodium levels. While we can check sodium in the blood, this new MRI method, called Sodium MRI (Na-MRI), can provide information about sodium levels in areas like the skin, muscles, kidneys, and even the brain. By understanding sodium distribution in the body, doctors hope to improve treatment for patients on haemodialysis.
To participate in this study, you need to be between 50 and 75 years old and have kidney disease that requires chronic haemodialysis for at least three months. Participants should be able to understand simple English instructions for safety during the MRI scans. It’s important to note that there are certain conditions that might prevent someone from taking part, such as having an active infection, being pregnant, or having any medical issues that make it unsafe to undergo an MRI. If you join the study, you will undergo a safe MRI scan, which will help researchers learn more about sodium levels in your body and potentially improve care for others with similar conditions in the future.
