ClinConnect Summary
The CAfCA trial is a study looking at how frailty, which means being more vulnerable to stress and health challenges, affects patients undergoing heart and vascular surgeries that require anesthesia. Researchers want to understand the characteristics of these patients, especially focusing on those who are frail and have other health conditions, to help predict their recovery outcomes after surgery. They have found that frailty can significantly increase risks, including the chance of complications or even death within 30 days after surgery, especially in older adults.
To participate in this study, patients must be at least 18 years old and scheduled for elective (planned) heart, thoracic, or vascular surgery. Those in urgent situations or having same-day surgeries won't be included. Participants will provide consent and can expect to share information about their health, which will help researchers gather valuable insights into how frailty and other health issues impact recovery after anesthesia and surgery. This research aims to improve care for patients in the future.
