ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a condition called small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and how often it happens in people who take certain medications known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). These medications are often used to treat symptoms like heartburn and regurgitation, which are common in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Researchers want to find out if taking PPIs might lead to an increase in SIBO, which can cause digestive issues.
To participate in this study, you should be between the ages of 65 and 74 and have symptoms related to GERD, such as heartburn or regurgitation. It's important that you can give informed consent, meaning you understand the study and agree to take part. However, if you have been diagnosed with SIBO before, have taken PPIs or certain other medications recently, or have serious health conditions, you may not be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to undergo breath testing to check for SIBO, and your participation will help researchers better understand this condition and its relationship with GERD treatments.
