ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a new way to check hemoglobin levels in pregnant women, which is important for preventing and managing conditions like anemia and postpartum hemorrhage. The trial will test two devices: one that measures hemoglobin levels without needing a blood sample (the Masimo device) and another that requires a small finger prick (the HemoCue® device). Researchers want to see how accurate these devices are compared to the traditional blood test that uses a needle to draw blood from the arm. The goal is to make hemoglobin testing easier and quicker for pregnant women, especially in places where regular testing might be difficult.

To participate in this trial, women need to be between 18 and 50 years old and currently pregnant. However, those with certain blood disorders, skin conditions affecting their fingers, or specific liver problems won't be eligible. If you join the study, you will have your hemoglobin levels checked using these new devices during your visits to the Obstetrics and Gynecology clinics at George Washington Medical Faculty Associates. This could help improve care for pregnant women by providing faster results and better access to testing.
