ClinConnect Summary
This is an observational study that wants to see if floatation therapy (Floatation-REST) helps improve overall wellbeing for hospital staff. About 50 adults who work as nurses or doctors at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Trauma Center, Mercy Health, will take part. Eligible participants are adults aged 21 to 70 who are employed as a nurse, practitioner, anesthetist, or physician at that hospital. Participation is voluntary and the study is by invitation.
Participants will try float sessions at Mercy Health in Warren, Ohio at no cost. Each session lasts about 60 minutes in a sensory-reduced tank (warm water with magnesium sulfate, in darkness and quiet). Before each float, they may complete a wellbeing survey. The study will track changes in a total wellbeing score over about a year, along with two smaller measures: how much stress-related feelings are reduced (nonstress score) and how much positive mood is increased (positive affect score). The data are kept anonymous, and researchers won’t know who is who. The study is still enrolling by invitation, started in 2023, with completion expected in 2026. It is not testing a drug or medical device, and results will be shared in publications so others can learn from the findings.
