ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how physical exercise can affect patients with schizophrenia, particularly looking at telomere size. Telomeres are the protective caps on the ends of our chromosomes that can shorten as we age, which is linked to health issues. The trial will involve participants who are 18 years or older and have been diagnosed with schizophrenia for at least five years. They will be randomly assigned to either a group that participates in strength training exercises or a control group that does not engage in this exercise.
Participants can expect to take part in physical activities designed to improve their strength and fitness. The trial aims to see how these exercises may influence not just telomere size, but also cognitive function, symptoms of schizophrenia, overall quality of life, and how frailty is measured in these patients. This study is important as it could help us understand the benefits of exercise for individuals living with schizophrenia and provide insights into their health and well-being.
