ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating whether a method called motivational interviewing, combined with regular oral health education, can help prevent dental issues like cavities and gum disease in young people receiving orthodontic treatment (like braces). The study recognizes that many patients, especially teenagers and young adults, struggle with maintaining good oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment, leading to problems such as tooth decay and gingivitis (inflammation of the gums). By encouraging positive changes in their dental care habits, the trial aims to improve their oral health outcomes.
To participate in the study, individuals must be between 13 and 28 years old and currently receiving orthodontic treatment at the National University of Colombia. They also need to be willing to join the study and sign a consent form. However, those with untreated cavities, certain gum diseases, or other specific health conditions will not be eligible. Participants can expect to receive guidance and support to help them maintain better oral hygiene throughout their treatment, which could lead to healthier teeth and gums.
