ClinConnect Summary
The SegwayPD clinical trial is studying how a special type of training can help people with Parkinson's Disease (PD) improve their balance and coordination. The training uses a Segway, which is a two-wheeled, self-balancing device, to provide extra support and information about body position while participants practice standing and moving. This study aims to determine if this method is safe and effective for enhancing both motor skills (like movement) and cognitive function (like thinking) in individuals with PD.
To participate in this trial, you need to be between 50 and 85 years old, diagnosed with moderate Parkinson's Disease, and stable on your medication for at least a month. You should be able to stand and walk without support for at least 5 minutes. However, people with other serious neurological conditions, unstable health issues, or certain sensory problems that might affect their ability to participate will not be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to engage in training sessions that focus on improving your balance while using the Segway, aiming to enhance your overall movement and mental function.
