ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether adding a specific type of acupuncture, called auricular acupuncture, to standard pain management can help reduce the amount of opioid pain medication needed after surgery for lower leg fractures. The trial is aimed at patients who are scheduled to have surgery to fix fractures in their ankles or feet at Harris Health System Ben Taub Hospital. Researchers hope to see if this acupuncture technique, used during surgery, can lead to less pain and lower reliance on opioids after the operation.
To be eligible for this study, participants should be between 18 and 64 years old and classified as having mild to moderate health issues before surgery. They must be inpatients set to undergo surgery for an ankle fracture. However, individuals with certain health problems, like kidney issues or allergies to anesthesia, will not be able to join. Participants can expect to receive either the acupuncture treatment or standard care during their surgery, and they will be closely monitored for their pain levels and medication needs afterward. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and it's a great opportunity to help improve pain management for future patients.
