ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating how well the pituitary gland, which produces important hormones in the body, functions after patients have recovered from a serious condition called septic shock. Septic shock occurs when an infection leads to dangerously low blood pressure and can last for more than 24 hours. Researchers want to find out if patients who have experienced this condition have any hormone imbalances when they leave the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and again six months later. By analyzing blood samples, they will check levels of various hormones to see if there are any issues that might affect recovery and long-term health.
To participate in this study, individuals must be between 18 and 80 years old. They can be included if they have experienced septic shock and required treatment in the ICU for over a week or if they are ICU patients who did not have septic shock but also stayed longer than seven days. Participants can expect to give blood samples when they leave the ICU and again six months later to help researchers understand how septic shock may impact hormone levels. This research could provide valuable insights into how to better monitor and care for patients who have survived serious infections.
