ClinConnect Summary
This is a large, ongoing observational study in Turkey (HEAT-YASAM) that follows people aged 80 and older who live at home to see how common problems often seen in older age—like frailty, malnutrition, depression, dementia, and multiple health conditions—are and how these health aspects change over two years. Researchers visit participants at home to do a broad check-up that includes daily functioning, nutrition, thinking and memory, mood, and mobility. They will track outcomes in the short term (at about 1, 3, and 6 months) and long term (at 1 and 2 years), including whether people become more dependent, how frail they are, and whether mortality or hospital use changes. The goal is to understand if a team-supported home-care program can improve healthy aging and reduce emergency visits.
If you are invited to participate, you would need to be 80 years or older and able to give verbal and written consent. The study is centered in Balıkesir, Turkey, at Balıkesir Atatürk City Hospital, and involves home visits by trained health staff who will ask questions and perform simple assessments. You would have follow-up assessments scheduled around 1, 3, and 6 months, and then again at 1 and 2 years, to track changes over time. This is an observational study, not a drug or device trial, led by Gulhane Training and Research Hospital with support from other health partners, and all activities are designed to understand the impact of the home-care program on aging and hospital use.
