ClinConnect Summary
The BUNDLE study is exploring how community doulas can be included in prenatal care for Black and African American pregnant individuals. A doula is a trained support person who helps during pregnancy and childbirth. This study has three phases: first, researchers will gather feedback from both birthing individuals and healthcare providers on how to best work together to improve trust and health outcomes. Next, they will test a new care model with 412 participants to see if it helps improve healthcare engagement and reduces issues during pregnancy. Finally, the findings will be shared with healthcare leaders and policymakers to advocate for including doulas in the healthcare system.
To be eligible for the study, participants should be self-reported Black or African American, pregnant with one baby, and have an established doctor at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Health System. Unfortunately, those planning to deliver outside this system or who already have additional support, like another doula or group prenatal care, won't be able to participate. If you join the study, you can expect to be part of an innovative approach to prenatal care aimed at creating a more supportive and trusting environment for mothers.
