ClinConnect Summary
The CHRONOCRIT trial is studying how critical illness affects sleep and circadian health, which is our body's natural clock that helps regulate sleep patterns. Many patients who have spent time in the intensive care unit (ICU) report trouble sleeping even after they leave the hospital. This study aims to find ways to better understand and improve sleep problems in these patients. Researchers will look at specific biological markers (called microRNAs) that might indicate sleep issues during the ICU stay and in the months following hospital discharge. They will also use advanced computer techniques to predict which patients might face more difficulties with sleep after leaving the hospital.
To participate in this study, individuals need to be at least 18 years old and have spent at least 7 days in the ICU. Unfortunately, those who were transferred to another hospital, have certain disabilities, or are receiving palliative care cannot join. Participants will undergo evaluations during their ICU stay and follow-up assessments at 3 and 12 months after leaving the hospital to track their sleep and circadian health. This research could help future patients get better care for their sleep issues after critical illness.
