ClinConnect Summary
The Avatar Contraception Communication Training trial is designed to help doctors become better at discussing reproductive health with teenagers and their parents. Many young people want to wait until they are adults before becoming parents, and this study aims to train medical providers in effective communication using a unique simulation method. The approach allows these providers to practice conversations with digital avatars that represent diverse youth and parents, boosting their confidence and skills in discussing important topics like contraception and sexual health.
This trial is looking for medical professionals, such as residents and fellows, who work at the Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine Clinic at Children's Medical Center of Dallas. To participate, providers must be able to read and speak either English or Spanish. The study is not yet recruiting participants, but once it starts, medical providers can expect to engage in training that helps them improve their communication with adolescents and their families about reproductive health. This training will not only enhance their skills but also assess how well they communicate from different perspectives—those of the youth, the parents, and themselves.
