ClinConnect Summary
The Tennessee Youth Prepared for Success trial is a study aimed at helping young people aged 14 to 19 learn about preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The program will provide education on both abstinence (not having sex) and contraception (methods to prevent pregnancy) to reduce rates of teenage pregnancies and STIs. This trial will focus on high-risk youth, particularly those living in rural areas or counties with high teen birth rates, and will incorporate a supportive approach that considers mental health needs, especially for those who have experienced trauma. The goal is to help young people transition into adulthood in a healthy way.
To participate in this trial, youth must have permission from a parent or guardian and be willing to share their experiences. They should not have serious mental or cognitive impairments. Participants can expect to engage in various activities and receive training aimed at improving their sexual health knowledge. The study is currently recruiting participants, and it aims to serve 1,200 youth across nine counties in Tennessee, providing them with valuable skills and information to make informed choices about their health.
