ClinConnect Summary

The SupraScapular Cuff Study is a research trial aimed at understanding how different sizes and types of rotator cuff tears can affect a specific nerve called the suprascapular nerve in adults. The main goal is to find out which characteristics of these tears lead to nerve damage. The study will also explore whether the nerve can heal after surgery to repair the tear, how far the tear can pull back before the nerve is permanently harmed, and what factors might help protect the nerve from injury. This information could help improve surgical procedures for future patients.

To participate in this study, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have a confirmed rotator cuff tear affecting one or both shoulders. However, certain conditions may prevent someone from joining, such as having significant shoulder arthritis, previous surgeries on the affected shoulder, or being unable to undergo specific tests like MRI scans. Participants will be evaluated and may undergo tests to gather important information about their condition. This study is currently not recruiting participants but aims to contribute valuable insights into shoulder health and treatment options.

  • Grossly abnormal shoulder anatomy
  • Motor Neurone Disease
  • Cervical cord disease affecting the SSN nerve roots
  • Patients unable to undergo MRI scan
  • Previous surgery at the affected glenohumeral joint
  • Patients unable to tolerate NCS
  • Acute fracture affecting the glenohumeral joint
  • Recent glenohumeral joint dislocation (past 12 months)
