ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the use of a special imaging technology called fluorescence during thyroid surgery. The main goal is to see if this technology can help doctors identify and protect the parathyroid glands, which are important for maintaining calcium levels in the body. By using fluorescence, the hope is to reduce the risk of a condition called postoperative hypoparathyroidism, which can happen after surgery if these glands are damaged.
The trial is currently looking for adult participants aged 65 to 74 who are scheduled for total thyroidectomy, which is a surgery to remove the entire thyroid gland, with or without the removal of lymph nodes. Participants will be randomly assigned to have surgery with or without the use of fluorescence technology. Those who join the study will help researchers understand the potential benefits of using this advanced imaging technique in thyroid surgeries. If you or someone you know is considering thyroid surgery and fits the eligibility criteria, this trial could be an opportunity to contribute to important medical research.
