ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a way to improve patient care during heart surgery that uses a machine called cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). During the rewarming phase of the surgery, when the patient's body temperature is gradually brought back to normal, the researchers believe that adjusting the flow of a special gas (sweep gas) can help prevent a condition called alkalosis, which happens when the blood becomes too basic. By carefully changing how much of this gas is used, the team hopes to keep patients more stable and comfortable during surgery.
To be eligible for this study, patients need to be at least 18 years old and scheduled for elective surgery that requires cardiopulmonary bypass. However, those undergoing certain types of surgeries, like minimally invasive or robotic procedures, or those needing extreme cooling or stopping blood circulation, cannot participate. If you join this trial, you can expect to be monitored closely during your surgery, and you will be part of an important effort to improve surgical care for future patients.
