ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Purinergic Signaling and the Postmenopausal Heart," is studying how changes in hormone levels after menopause may affect the heart, specifically looking at a type of heart failure known as diastolic heart failure. This condition is more common in postmenopausal women, and researchers believe that a decrease in the hormone estrogen may disrupt important processes in the heart, leading to this increased risk. By examining heart tissue from patients undergoing heart surgery, the team hopes to better understand how these changes occur and how they might be linked to heart health.
To participate in this study, individuals must be undergoing heart surgery that requires cardiopulmonary bypass, which is a technique that takes over the function of the heart and lungs during surgery. Some people will not be eligible, including those who have had certain heart conditions or are on hormone replacement therapy. If you or someone you know is interested in joining, the trial is currently recruiting participants of all genders. Those involved can expect to contribute to important research that could help improve understanding and treatment of heart issues in postmenopausal women.
