Ileus Colorectal Surgery

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a condition called postoperative ileus, which is when the bowel temporarily stops working after surgery, particularly in patients undergoing colorectal surgery. This can happen in about 20% of cases and can lead to the need for additional treatments, such as inserting a tube to help with digestion. The main goal of the study is to evaluate a specific score known as the IFEED score, which helps define postoperative ileus, and see how it relates to the length of time patients stay in the hospital after their surgery.

To be eligible for this trial, participants should be patients scheduled for surgery related to digestive issues like colorectal cancer, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, or colonic diverticulosis. However, those who have certain complications, are receiving emergency treatment, or have specific health conditions are not eligible. If you participate, you can expect to be part of a study that aims to improve understanding and treatment of bowel recovery after surgery, which could ultimately help many patients in the future.
