ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether training patients to lie face down (called prone position training) before surgery can help reduce the risk of lung problems after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, a type of weight-loss surgery. Lung issues after surgery, known as postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs), can be especially common in obese patients and may lead to longer hospital stays and increased health risks.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be over 18 years old, have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, and have a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome while scheduled for this surgery. During the study, eligible participants will receive training on how to safely assume the prone position before their surgery. The goal is to see if this training can help improve their recovery and reduce lung complications afterward. It’s important to note that people with certain medical issues, like severe cognitive problems or specific injuries, won’t be able to join the trial.
