ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to predict swallowing problems, known as dysphagia, in patients who are undergoing surgery for laryngeal cancer. Specifically, researchers are looking at patients who have early-stage laryngeal cancer (stages T1 and T2) and are receiving two types of surgical treatments: transoral endoscopic laser cordectomy and open partial horizontal laryngectomy (OPHL). Throughout the trial, participants will have their swallowing abilities measured before and after surgery using various tests, including a questionnaire about eating, assessments of swallowing different food textures, and special evaluations of how they swallow.
To be eligible for the trial, participants should be between 18 and 80 years old and have a specific type of throat cancer that requires the surgeries mentioned. They must also be able to swallow thin liquids normally before surgery. However, individuals with severe lung or heart conditions, certain mental health issues, or previous serious swallowing problems are not eligible. Participants can expect to have their swallowing abilities checked several times after their surgery, along with assessments of their voice and overall health. This trial is important as it aims to improve understanding of how to better support patients recovering from surgery for laryngeal cancer.
